Musings from the Shop Girl

Freehand Market began as a part-time job, but became magic: coffee rounds, slow hellos, lunch with birds, tarot readings, hugs, and river music. Saxapahaw taught me change is constant—and good.

I’m not really one to end a chapter, and keep turning the pages. There is usually a pause. I slowly close the book. A deep sigh, maybe a few tears or a laugh for the story witnessed. The chapter with Freehand Market has left my heart full. Somehow a part time job when I needed some-thing stable, turned into so much more. I was ready for the adventure.

And, of course there was so much magic. I lost myself in the current of the river and the sound of music. Most work days, I left my house early to grab a coffee, and make my rounds of the village. Sometimes the hellos were quick, but usually not. Everything slows down in Saxapahaw. Yeah, it’s okay. We can talk. I’d grab lunch, and eat outside with the birds. There’s a juvenile hawk. I’d greet you in the shop, and read your tarot. Your energy. Tell you everything will be okay. Are you going later? Can I have a hug? There is time. I love you.

The river and this village remind me that change is constant. Change is good.
